Saturday's Event POSTPONED

Austin's National Public Land Day activities have been postponed.

The official Austin workday celebrating National Public Land Day, has been postponed to Saturday, October 6th due to the high probability of rain this weekend.  The clean-up of the North Star Creek (at Parkfield) will now be held on Saturday, October 6th from 9a-12 noon.

The Watershed Protection Department and a core team of GWNA volunteers will go ahead and work this Saturday, September 28th on planting the 100 native saplings that were purchased for our riparian restoration project.  If you want to brave the weather, please join us at 9:00 a.m. at the Parkfield entrance of the North Star Creek.

Make plans to bring your family, kids and friends out on Oct. 6th to complete the weeding and clean-up of the North Star Creek.

For more information please contact us at: info@gracywoods.org

July Meeting Cancelled - come to our 4th of July Parade instead

The general GWNA business meeting for July 3th has been cancelled.

Instead, we would like everyone to come out and join us for our annual 4th of July Parade on Wednesday morning.

It is a simple gathering in the North Star Greenbelt.  We meet to pay tribute to our freedom, march through the park (5 minutes) and gather for iced watermelons, cupcakes and friendship with our neighbors.

Please bring your children, family and neighbors for our GWNA 4th of July celebration - and make a new friend.  (See details in the post below.)

Annual 4th of July Parade

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Gracywoods Neighborhood Association will be hosting our annual 4th of July parade.

We will gather starting at 8:30 a.m. at the water fountain on Bittern Hollow and the parade through the Greenbelt will start at 9:00 a.m. (Wednesday, July 4th)

(see map: http://goo.gl/maps/kRwU)

We will be serving iced watermelon and continue our annual tradition with our cupcake contest.  (Bring your best recipe of decorated cupcakes for the contest and to share.)

Kids (of all ages) bring your bikes, trikes, scooters and wagons decorated in red-white and blue, for our patriotic ride in the park - and to compete for best decorated non-motorized vehicles. (or come early and we'll help you decorate your ride.)

Prizes: Win prizes for decorated bikes and trikes and the cupcake contest.

VOLUNTEERS:  We need a few volunteers to help out with this event.  Anyone play a drum or flute?  We need a musician to lead the parade - or to entertain us afterwards.  We also need small prizes to be donated for the contests.  ($10 gift cards to local merchants are ideal.)  Volunteers are needed to help with the decorating and festivities.  If you have would like to volunteer or donate, please contact:  Bill Glass: 836-3330 or wlglass@sbcglobal.net

Make plans to join us for annual neighborhood 4th of July Parade . . . bring a lawn chair and a friend!

Bond Forum - tonight

Bond Forum
Thursday, May 3rd, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
 Lanier High School Cafeteria
1201 Payton Gin Road
park on west side of cafeteria and enter on that side

We hope you will try to make the Bond Task Force community meeting that will take place at Lanier High School tonight, May 3, 6:30-8:30PM.

This will be one of the last times citizens can communicate with the Citizen Bond Election Advisory Task Force members before they make their final recommendations to the City Council in May.

North Austin neighborhood leaders have been working hard to convince the Bond Task Force members how much we need transportation and mobility improvements in the N. Lamar/Burnet Rd. corridors.  As of right now, the BTF members have recommended $34,200,000 for Phase 1 N. Lamar & Burnet Rd. corridor improvements.  That's a great start, and we don't want them to reduce that amount in their final recommendations!

So, please come out and tell the Task Force members how much we need those transportation and mobility improvements.

APD Commander's Forum - May 1st

Austin Police Dept.
Commander's Forum
Tuesday, May 1st

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012 – 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Parmer Woods 12429 Scofield Farms Dr
(at Parmer Lane East of Metric)

Special Guest:
Chief of Police, Art Acevedo

GWNA & NACN is asking people to take the time to come, meet and thank our officers who serve in North Austin. We will also have a rare visit from Chief Acevedo who will be the guest speaker at Tuesday's event.

Come out and show your support for North Austin Police officers.  The Commander's Forum is the A.P.D. open house and report to the community.  Our patrol officers need to know what concerns you have.  An active and engaged community is a safer community!

We also want to show our appreciation for our North Austin Police Officers.  Fallen, Officer Padron served at the Lamplight substation, so many of our officers knew him and these officers need to know that we love and support them too!

Police cannot accept gifts, so we are asking you bring a thank you card, or drawings from your kids, or a plate of homemade cookies.

Join us for this quarterly event.  Meet the patrol offices and the supervisors that protect North Austin.  Bring your questions and concerns!

This Tuesday
Commanders' Forum will be held at:
Parmer Woods Nursing Home - 12429 Scofield Farms Dr
(at Parmer Lane East of Metric)

Please invite your neighbors and friends
to attend this important meeting. . . and to VOTE.
